The Staff are educators and aim to build a trusting and secure environment for both the children and parents. The children are free to choose the areas of interest in which they will participate throughout the day, as an individual and as part of a group. Our professionally trained staff carefully plan and supervise the program. Sharing and co-operating with other children is encouraged by the staff. Activities each day will generally include a wide range of developmentally appropriate activities based on individual interests and needs of the children for both the indoor and the outdoor environments.
Documentation and displays are integral to our programme. These displays inform families that we value the processes involved in the children's learning.
Documentation requires considerable time and effort by the educators, however the rewards are considerable. Photographic and written documentation of children at play, at work on a project or activity, and during routines are used. This documentation, or record, of the children's work is displayed throughout the centre to share with families and visitors but most importantly for children and educators to reflect upon, discuss, compare and refer to. Observations and anecdotes are recorded and displayed with samples of the children's work that are available for parents and children to view in their portfolios.
The Gumnut room is a stimulating and active place for two to four year olds. The Gumnut room promotes the children's inter-dependence, resilience, sense of agency, and autonomy through play experiences. These experiences encourage your child to grow, learn and stimulate the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language development of each individual child. The Gumnut room provides a warm and caring environment to extend on trust and well-being for the 2-4 year old age group. Our dedicated educators focus on relationships, language, independence and negotiation techniques. All children are encouraged to make positive choices and build nurturing relationships with educators and peers. We believe that each child is a unique individual with the ability to construct knowledge about themselves, others, and the world around them through active learning. Our educators provide a stimulating environment both indoors and out and expose all children to a developmentally appropriate play based program that provides opportunities for the 'whole' development of each individual child.
Pre-schoolers are naturally curious about their environment. During this period children are rapidly developing an understanding of concepts, and are highly motivated to explore and set challenges for themselves and their peers. We encourage children to act as initiators, investigators, explorers, problem solvers and creators. To support children in this, the program emphasis is on fostering self-esteem, emotional wellbeing, communication, socialisation, collaboration and self-help skills. Curriculum areas such as art, music, science, maths, language development, literature, drama and movement are provided for on a daily basis. These are, however, not necessarily presented as separate "activities", but are integrated throughout the day. Planning is individualised and children are supported and guided in decision-making about the experiences they wish to explore both indoors and out. Educators work with the children in small groups and on a one-to-one basis.
|School Readiness Program|
Commencing 'big school' is a major event for a child and their family.
As your child approaches school we ensure they are ready for this important transition by integrating a school readiness program as part of their daily experiences.
Our educators have developed an extensive school readiness program that ensures that the transition to your child's school of choice will be a smooth and happy one.
Our program encourages independent learning. We provide experiences and activities that are driven by the interests of our children, focusing on their skills and development and assisting them to achieve realistic goals.
By using the National Early Years Learning Framework it provides us a strong emphasis on play-based learning as play is the best vehicle for young children's learning providing the most appropriate stimulus for brain development. The Framework also recognises the importance of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy and social and emotional development). We aim to give the children the necessary skills to work towards achieving these outcomes, within a stimulating and fun environment where learning opportunities are planned using a play based approach.
The School Readiness program incorporates pre-writing and reading skills using the latest technological resources as well science experiments and maths concepts where children can learn about the world around them as well as exploring and learning key life skills.
Our School Readiness Program commences at the time your child is enrolled at our centre, regardless of their age, and represents a systematic and continuous approach to preparing each child for primary school. Specific school-related goals and objectives which are emphasized in the 6-12 month period prior to commencing school, include:
